McLaren unveils its new car for the upcoming Formula 1 season

One month after presenting the livery of their 2024 car, the MCL38, British Formula 1 team McLaren has unveiled their new car that will debut next week during testing in Bahrain. « The team has done a good job over the winter and we are confident in our ability to be competitive, even though we still have important tasks to accomplish before the start of the season, » explained McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl. « There are a number of innovations on the car, but not all the areas we wanted to improve have been addressed in this launch version. We are now focusing on these areas to include them in the updates that will come during the season, and which we are already working on. »

Seidl seems more confident than he was a year ago when he had just taken over the British team and presented a car that hinted at a difficult start to the season. McLaren had indeed experienced a very tough first few months, scoring only 17 points in the first eight races. However, updates introduced at the Austrian Grand Prix in July and in Singapore in September allowed the team, based in Woking, England, to dramatically turn things around and finish fourth in the constructors’ championship with 302 points.

British driver Lando Norris secured six second-place finishes and one third place, while Australian rookie Oscar Piastri added two podiums and a victory in the sprint race in Qatar. « I’m excited to test the car in Bahrain. I’m confident that we can continue our momentum from last season, » emphasized Norris, who is starting his sixth season with McLaren after signing a multi-year contract extension with the team last month.

The new McLaren car features a sleek design with several visible changes compared to its predecessor. The team has focused on improving aerodynamics, which plays a crucial role in the performance of a Formula 1 car.
